Għargħur Primary School Council organised the annual Borża ta’ San Martin educational fundraising event.
Following the success registered the last years, the Borża ta’ San Martin yet again included a fair-trade concept.
Each bag contained the traditional sweet bun (ħbejża ta’ San Martin), a few walnuts and hazelnuts, a tangerine or clementine and an organic & fair-trade date and walnut bar. The bag also included information about fairtrade.
This year we took this event one step further and paced toward sustainability and tradition. In past years a paper bag was used, whereas, this year it was a colourful cloth bag pulled with a string from the top. Students are refunded €1 if the cloth bag is returned to school.
Kudos to the Gharghur School Community and School Council members. A special thanks goes to Ms Rose and Mr Portelli who saw to the sewing of the fabric bags and to the volunteers who filled the bags.
